Long Gulch to Kenosha Pass
This post is part of a series featuring Jana’s journal entries from her Colorado Trail thru-hike
Day 5 ~ An easy downhill day. We headed out at 6:30am and came upon a beautiful overlook. We met some gals from Colorado Springs doing a couple of segments. Meeting other people is a highlight on the trail. Everyone stops to take breaks – you do have ALL day to hike, so stop and enjoy! We found many reasons to take breaks – wash clothes, filter water, eat a snack, relax, and chat.
Foot care was at the top of my list each evening. I had a couple of blisters and Second Skin has been a life saver.
We were so lucky to have my husband and other friends meeting us and coordinating our resupplies. Other hikers were needing to hitch a ride into town to get their boxes they mailed to themselves. Julie gave a couple of hikers a ride to town after resupplying us.
On day 5, I felt like I could keep walking forever. My body was finally adjusting to the backpack, and my hips weren’t hurting quite as much. I was living on Tylenol though.
A storm was brewing as we were in our tents. I used my Garmin to check the weather often. At the end of the hike, I found out that you pay $1 each time you check the weather. But it was worth it!!
