Colorado Trail Series – Segment 3

Little Scraggy Trailhead to Rolling Creek Trailhead

This post is part of a series featuring Jana’s journal entries from her Colorado Trail thru-hike

Day 3 ~ The first part of the day was quite lovely, flat, and we found some freezing water to plunge our feet into.

The hike got tougher as the day progressed.  Today was the toughest day yet and I almost quit.  I had so much pain in my hips from osteoarthritis.  I really held to the back of the pack hiking all day, and tried to decide what the right course of action was.  Towards the end of the day, my partners had me take some Tylenol.  It WORKED wonders!  I didn’t realize Tylenol was for arthritis. I wasn’t ready to give up quite yet!

Julie, my now business partner, was waiting for us at the end of Segment 3.  I started crying when I saw her because it had been such a rough day.  She shuttled us into Bailey to get water because we were out and didn’t have any coming up soon.

We all took every piece out of our packs and looked at every single item.  We sent home so much of our stuff that wasn’t necessary.  I also changed my shoes to my trail runners.  My blisters were getting better!
